Having worked in retirement communities for close to 30 years, I've met
many people, of all ages, who've developed a regular practice of contemplative and/or meditative prayer. Rhonda Jones, founder of TheChristianMeditator.com,
talks about how she suffered with depression for four years, before she received her healing breakthrough. She said, “I stood in the healing lines, I prayed till I was red in the face, I sought out mental health professionals, I cried mountains of tears, and I STILL continued to suffer. Then, it was a random encounter with God, while I sat in my mini-van one day, when my breakthrough happened. Those are the times that I knew that it was God and it had nothing to do with me.”

I learned from others, that one of the best things I could do was to simply 'Be Still' in a contemplative or meditative prayer practice. I read a book called 'The Happiness Hypothesis', by popular social psychologist Dr. Jonathan Haidt. In his book, Dr. Haidt says: "Suppose you read about a pill that you could take once a day to reduce anxiety and increase your contentment. Would you take it? Suppose further that the pill has a great variety of side effects, all of them good; increased self-esteem, empathy, trust; it even improves memory. Suppose finally, that the pill is all natural and costs nothing. Now would you take it? The pill exists. It is meditation".
