How Will Active Senior Living at Lakeside At Waterman Village Maximize Your Wellness? The List Goes On!

September 24, 2020

Choosing a community like Lakeside at Waterman Village isn’t just about having a brand-new space that better fits your life today. It’s about what happens inside and beyond that new home, and it’s about how living in a community that provides a total retirement plan leads to a happier, healthier life. In fact, it’s been proven!

The recent, groundbreaking and ongoing Age Well Study by the Mather Institute is a five-year longitudinal study examining more than 5,700 residents of more than 100 communities like Waterman Village across the country. The study aims to gauge the impact of living in these types of active senior living communities on residents’ overall wellness. The first two years of data have already revealed some compelling figures.

For example, the first year of research asked residents of active senior living communities to rate themselves on key measures of overall wellness. Compared to older adults living in the community at large (those deciding to remain in their houses), active senior community residents rated themselves:

  • 35% higher on social contact (emotional & social wellness)
  • 21% higher on engagement with intellectual activities (intellectual wellness)
  • 57% higher on involvement with volunteering and charity work (vocational wellness)
  • 14% higher on amount of physical activity at all intensity levels (physical wellness)
  • 11% higher on overall health (physical wellness)

Those figures basically frame the main takeaway from the year 1 study: “Compared to community-at-large adults, people living at active senior communities tend to have greater emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and vocational wellness.” (p. 5)

So, what does all this mean for those considering Lakeside at Waterman Village? Quite simply, this soon-to-break-ground community will provide wellness-focused, active senior living that grants you the benefits that so many others have already experienced by choosing this type of community Let’s go deeper to explore what that will mean as you live each day just steps from shimmering Lake Margaret!

Physical wellness

The first thing that many people think of when they hear “wellness” is physical wellness. And rightfully so: It’s hard to live well if you don’t feel well!

In relation, the year 2 report from the Age Well Study notes, “Residents in communities with a greater number of amenities were more physically active, possibly due to the availability of features supporting physical wellness.” (p. 34)

So, you’ll be glad to hear that Lakeside at Waterman Village will offer many of those crucial “features supporting physical wellness” between its brand-new neighborhood and the existing resources just across the street at the existing Waterman Village community. For example, you and your neighbors will have unlimited access to:

  • A fully equipped fitness center with modern machines
  • Group fitness classes and personal training available from expert instructors
  • Our stunning outdoor pool overlooking Lake Margaret
  • Golf at Country Club of Mount Dora (membership included), tennis & more
  • A supremely walkable setting, replete with nature trails and paved, tree-lined paths

With all those options, we think you’ll find yourself experiencing what the Age Well Study’s year 2 report also found, stating “a relationship between increased physical activity and walking paths and exercise facilities.” (p. 34) And when you dive into the possibilities, your years at Lakeside at Waterman Village may be your most active chapter yet!

Social and emotional wellness

Choosing an active senior living community like Lakeside at Waterman Village is an easy way to maximize your overall wellness.

When we have asked our Founding Members why they chose an active senior living community like Lakeside at Waterman Village for their next step, one of the most common answers is that they want to meet people, make new friends and enjoy the benefits of a social environment.

It’s no wonder, then, that the Age Well Study also reported the socio-emotional wellness benefits of choosing an active senior living community: “A greater sense of both social cohesion and community belonging were positively related to healthy behaviors and health outcomes.” (year 2, p. 30) Not only are you more likely to enjoy the social benefits of community living at a place like Lakeside at Waterman Village, but you’re also more likely to make healthier choices to support your overall wellness as a result. That’s a win-win!

Amplifying who you are

Wellness goes far beyond how you feel, whether physically or emotionally. Active senior living communities also grant you access to the top levels of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, so you can truly feel fulfilled each day. And living at Lakeside at Waterman Village will inspire you to live to your potential—while maintaining your sense of purpose.

This fulfillment relates to the Age Well Study results mentioned earlier in the introduction, and how participants reported much higher engagement with intellectual activities as well as volunteering and charity work. You’ll have every chance to take on these empowering and fulfilling efforts if you move to an active senior living community like this soon-to-be-built neighborhood coming to lovely Mount Dora.
