Lakeside is Waterman Village’s second retirement community. Lakeside opened in 2022 and is located directly across the street from The Oaks at Waterman Village.
Lakeside and The Oaks are connected by a golf cart/pedestrian bridge over Donnelly Street. Lakeside offers independent living apartments AND duplex homes, whereas The Oaks offers duplex homes only.
Lakeside residents pay a monthly service fee and an initial ‘buy-in’ fee, which we call a ‘life-lease’ fee. This type of fee is common for retirement communities that have independent living residences, an assisted living facility, a memory care facility, and a nursing care facility all on one campus.
Most of the new retirement communities, especially in The Villages, FL, only offer independent living, assisted living/memory care. In addition to independent living duplex homes and apartments, Waterman Village offers a complete skilled nursing / post hospital / long-term nursing care residence right on its campus. This is important, knowing that if you’re sent to the hospital and your doctor recommends a post-hospital nursing/rehab center upon discharge, you’re coming BACK HOME to Waterman Village. Familiar surroundings near your spouse and/or friends.
When looking for a community like Waterman Village that has all 5 levels of living on one campus, for over 90% of people, it is a better financial decision to choose a plan like Lakeside offers, where residents can receive the bulk of their initial monies that they paid back, rather than to moving to a community where they’d receive no or little refund back after having lived in the community a short 3, 4 or 5 years, in order to receive a discounted rate in the community’s on campus nursing home if needed. Because statistics show that less than 7% of the residents who first start out in a retirement community’s independent living area, will require the community’s nursing home long-term. Short term stays are typically already covered by a person’s individual insurance plan.
Folks who already possess LTC insurance, find Waterman Village to be the ideal choice. They don’t have to pay twice for LTC insurance; their own individual LTC policy and a community’s low or no entry fee refund for LTC insurance.
Another large but often overlooked disadvantage of paying an entry fee to a community, where most or all of the initial monies paid would not be refunded back after a resident has lived there 3, 4, or 5 years, is if a resident decides they want or need to move out. Knowing they would not receive most or any of the money back of their original entry fee paid, can have a variety of negative personal, familial and financial consequences.
Lakeside offers three dining venues, large screened in lanais in all residences, EV charging stations, a staffed gatehouse 24/7, complimentary covered parking, and priority access to all the living and service areas Waterman Village has to offer. Residents can walk or golf cart to dental and doctor offices, as well our highly acclaimed physical therapy clinic.
