Why Not Choose a 55+ Retirement Community? Waterman Village Has the Answers
June 22, 2022
A 55+ retirement community may sound like an attractive way to begin the next phase of your life. You know you’re going to be surrounded by others in your age group who began their retirement around the same time as you and hopefully have similar backgrounds. At the very least, they’re contemporaries who’ve experienced many of the same things you have. But what if something happens to you or your spouse and one of you needs care that isn’t offered by your 55+ retirement community? What if you need transportation to medical appointments? A little assistance with daily activities? Nursing care or even rehab?
The difference of a progressive living community
Those are just a few of the reasons you might be better off choosing a progressive multi-level living community like Waterman Village, where you have all the benefits and amenities you could ask for including peace of mind. “We lived in a 55+ community for several years,” Michigan native Jack says. “However, my wife Carol and I realized from observing others that staying there wasn’t going to be the best long-term option for us.”
Jack and Carol understood that if either of them experienced a decline in health and needed assisted living, memory support or skilled nursing care, then that person would have to go outside the 55+ community to receive care or they’d have to move again. What set Waterman Village apart for them, however, was the benefit of future care right there, which meant they wouldn’t have to move again. “We felt that moving to a progressive living community would allow us to stay independent as long as possible and stay together on the same campus, even if we age differently,” Carol says.
Coming home
When they discovered Waterman Village, they realized they’d found exactly what they were looking for — a community that not only offered the future care they wanted, but also one with incredibly social and active seniors like themselves and more amenities than they’d had in their previous home, including a brand-new state-of-the-art fitness center, stunning outdoor pool and spa, fine-dining restaurants and a sports bar, all located at Lakeside at Waterman Village, the community’s newest addition. Additionally, Waterman Village’s location in the charming town of Mount Dora offered an array of off-campus cultural, recreational and dining opportunities they could take advantage of throughout the year.
Waterman Village added one other benefit that meant a lot to the couple. “Jack and I did not want our children to have to make decisions,” Carol explains. “We knew that if we stayed in a 55+ community the time might come when our children would probably need to step in and make decisions for us. Our children are busy with their own lives, careers and families. The last thing we wanted was to burden them with that type of involvement and decision making!” When Jack and Carol moved to Waterman Village, those fears disappeared.
Like Jack and Carol, Waterman Village residents Susan and Ron also came from a 55+ community. “The more we talked about it,” Susan says, “the more we liked the idea of a simpler life, a maintenance-free home, having care nearby if needed, the ability to travel with greater ease and peace of mind for our children.” And so, their search began.
“The more we looked, the more Waterman Village felt like home to us,” Ron explains. “Parking and the house were important to us, and both suited our needs perfectly. And Mount Dora was also a draw. Our children are scattered across the country. They were surprised, supportive and delighted for us when they learned of our decision to make ‘the big move.’ We’re going into our third month, loving our home, our front porch and our neighbors.”
But wait, there’s more
There’s yet another reason you might want to consider making Waterman Village your first move rather than your second (or third) — our new Lakeside at Waterman Village. This new independent living retirement community is located directly across the street from The Oaks at Waterman Village, and only a limited number of homes remains available. “The response to Lakeside has been tremendous,” Abe Zimmerman, manager at Lakeside at Waterman Village, notes. “Now is the time to select a brand-new apartment or duplex home at Lakeside, while they’re still available.”
The current real estate market is also a key reason to consider moving to Waterman Village now. It’s a seller’s market, with homes going quickly and at prices that aren’t likely to last. Why not save yourself the extra step of moving twice, as would likely be necessary at some point when you can avoid the stress, worry and anxiety of yet another move?
55+ communities have a reputation for being the first step toward retirement. But why add an extra step when Waterman Village offers everything you’d expect to find in a 55+ retirement community and far more with the added benefit of future care that will help keep you in your home? What better plan could you have than investing in your own future?
