A Giving Community is a Caring Community

About Waterman Communities Foundation

Founded in 2001, the Waterman Communities Foundation is a philanthropic organization whose Mission is “to strive to enhance the lives and well-being of current and future residents of Waterman Village with needed services; support benevolence; provide Village improvements; and empower employees through education and training.”

The Foundation is a separate entity, operating independently from Waterman Village. The stewardship of the Foundation’s funds is solely managed by the Foundation Board. No members of Waterman Village management are on the Foundation Board. Because the Foundation is largely supported by our residents, it is through their generosity that the Foundation can meet the needs of the community and fulfill its mission. Funds raised go directly to support the projects our residents care about, that add value to the community and that provide educational rewards for our employees.

In the past, the Foundation has funded projects that have included…

  • Audio-Visual Equipment, Drapes and Lighting for the Chapel
  • Intelect TranSport Electrotherapy Machine for Outpatient Therapy
  • Cardiac Chair for Therapy
  • Continuing Education for Waterman Village Physical Therapists
  • Lift Chair for the Lakeside Pool
  • Nature Trail Restorations

“As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands.
One for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.”
  ~ Audrey Hepburn

These undertakings have been notable and beneficial to both residents and employees. But, the Foundation is “stepping up” its efforts to do much more for the community.

One example is a 5-week Pilot Program for English language classes for our employee team members. Generous donors enabled the Foundation to hire a professional teacher to provide instruction and program materials. Participating employees felt the classes were beneficial and would help them in their work here at Waterman Village. Knowing there is a great need for this, the Foundation hopes to be able to continue the program.

Simultaneously, the Foundation is “looking ahead to the future” and focusing on a new direction to support both residents and employee education.

The New Endeavor

The Foundation’s new direction is creating a permanent Endowment to support our residents and employees. The Endowment is administered by a professional Investment Manager. On the Foundation Board, there is an Investment Committee providing oversight to the Investment Manager to help ensure the Endowment can provide a dependable, perpetual source of spending power far into the future for the well-being and enjoyment of our community.

To build the Endowment, the Foundation is implementing our Community in Action campaign. Our initial goal is to raise $500,000. Residents coming together to support the campaign can make a real impact. Your gifts will help create a bright future for our residents and “employee family”.

How Can I Donate

Here are several easy ways to donate:

Cash Donations

Gifting cash is greatly appreciated. Make your check payable to Waterman Communities Foundation with Endowment on the memo line. Or, consider electronic funds transfer for ease and efficiency.

Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

Contributing all or a portion of your Required Minimum Distribution is an easy way to donate, lower your annual income and reduce your tax liability. Make a one-time donation or donate every year.

Life Lease Fee Refund Plans

Allocating all or a portion of your life lease fee refund is a meaningful way to help the Foundation meet the needs of current and future residents.

Memorials/Honorariums

Taking advantage of the available “Naming Opportunities” program gives residents the opportunity to name or rename campus buildings, rooms within these buildings, or outdoor common areas in honor or memory of a beloved family member, a couple or “furry friend.” More information and an application form are in the Naming Opportunities Booklet available at the concierge desks at the Oaks and Lakeside.
